There is no known reason for this self-destructive act. It has been almost ten years since the first suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Since then, more than 200 people have died every year from suicide. The number of suicides in San Francisco outnumbered the births by a factor of three during 2017 and 2018. Nearly one third of all American adults have contemplated suicide, which is an average rate about 13%. The overwhelming majority of those who contemplate or attempt to commit suicide are men, according to studies done at Kansas State University and Columbia University respectively. Over the years, there have been different types of methods used for committing suicide. A study conducted at Copenhagen University showed that the use of firearms accounted for over 90% of suicides in Denmark. The use of poison has decreased but it is still prevalent in most parts of the world, especially the Far East. The use of firearms is still very common in some parts of Asia and Africa despite laws banning its possession. There are many countries where it is easy to obtain a gun. According to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), there are about 20 million guns in private possession out of more than 307 million civilian-owned firearms in US households. It is difficult to obtain a gun license in most countries. Most countries have strict laws regarding the possession of guns. Drugs are used for self-destruction in large numbers. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), opioid-related deaths occur at rates three times higher than car accidents. It is believed that there are 20 million deaths caused due to drug overdose every year. The same study recorded that for every death by opioid, there are six by cocaine, six by alcohol, five by suicide and two due to firearm use. For every death due to opiates, alcohol is the second cause behind it followed by firearms and suicide capabilities. A study done by Columbia University found that there were 1.7 million suicide attempts every year. The study found that the majority of those who attempt to commit suicide are men, with men accounting for 85% of all suicides. While it is difficult to find out whether or not self-induced death due to pesticides is used as a method, over 400 people have died in Central Africa due to their own pesticides. Self-imposed suicides are also common in Japan, India and South Korea. There are many countries where self-imposed death by hanging is common. This includes Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia. Nearly 1 million people die from hanging in India alone. Self-imposing death by hanging is a direct social phenomenon in various parts of the world. In some areas, nearly one third of all suicide attempts are self-induced deaths by hanging. It includes a wide range of countries including Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. The National Institute of Mental Health and Human Studies conducted a survey on suicides in India which showed that lethal pesticides were used for the purpose of suicide by an estimated 50% to 90% depending on the area surveyed. It showed that there was widespread contamination throughout many parts of India due to pesticide use. cfa1e77820
